News / 05 December 2004Town of Borisov hosts 2nd stage of Republic of Belarus NOC 2nd Open Rally Raids Cup![]() Second stage of the Republic of Belarus National Olympic Committee 2nd Open jeep trials Cup took place on 17-18 May at “French Hillock” tank driving grounds (town of Borisov). For two days, 12 crews fought for the top place on the podium. The event organizers in Borisov have prepared for the racers the most complicated track sections in the history of the tournaments. During the first day, the pilots and navigators had to expose themselves to veritable risks without sparing themselves and the vehicles. That is why, obviously, the first in the season “coup d’etat” happened whose authors were Fried Kuchenmeister and Grigori Komenyuk. For the second time running, the crew of “Yarovit” bearing the starting number 33 (Andrei Birukov andDmitri Kniga) celebrated victory in the speed race. However, whereas in the first stage none of the rivals could put up decent competition to Andrei and Dmitri, this time Fried Kuchenmeister andGrigori Komenyuk throughout the whole distance of 28 laps (4 races of 7 laps each) did everything they could to reach and overtake the leaders. Everything notwithstanding, the Mitsubishi Pajero crew confidently kept a safe distance and won first place in the carrousel race in Category B1. The Belarus-Germany crew finished second, and third place in the speed races in Category B1 was taken by the Russian crew of Leonid Novitski and Oleg Tupenkin. Sunday proved to be a nerve-wrecking day for all the participants in B2 Category. The complicated track left practically no chances to the heavy off-roadsters. The carrousel race, instead of a speed test, turned into an endurance test for the B2 category. None of the crews completed all the 14 laps (half of the distance required to score in the race). Thus, the carrousel race in B2 Category was left without the winners.
