News / 29 June 20042nd stage of Third Open Jeep Trials Cup of the Republic of Belarus NOCA caravan of off-roadsters continues wheeling across the country. On the eve of the Day of the Republic of Belarus the city on the river Sozh hosted the sportsmen, referees and journalists. It was in Gomel that the driving crews lined up at the start of the 2nd stage of the Republic of Belarus NOC Third Jeep Trials Open Cup. The next stage, just as the event as a whole, was dedicated by the organizers, the Committee for Off-the-Road Tournaments of the Belarusian Motorists Federation and the “Vnedorozhnik” (“The Off-Roadster”) Club, to the great historic date: 60 years of liberation of Belarus from the German Nazi aggressors. 21 crews showed up for the 2nd stage of the 3rd Republic of Belarus NOC jeep trials open cup (7 crews in category B1, 6 in category B2, and 8 in Hobby category). 6 sections were ready for the contenders to cope with in the first day of the event, traditionally slated for classical trials. Sporting accidents did not fail to occur. Thus in section 1 of Hobby category crew No 11 (Juri Balatsun/Alexei Gorgach) was not able to negotiate the water bath. An evacuator vehicle sped to their rescue, and in a few minutes was ship-wrecked and in need of evacuation. Crews in Category B2 had their share of hardships in the starting section. Some of them were tumbles wheel-over-roof. Yet, for a real amateur of jeep trials, as well as for the participants, a somersault is no reason for worry. The organizers a very keen on ensuring safety of the pilots, navigators and the spectators, something that the sporting fans of Gomel had a possibility to witness. “Drive slower and you will ride farther”, that was obviously the motto of the first day of the event. The crews worked the sections slowly but surely, trying not to take undue risks and save their vehicles for the next day. As a result, 4 of the 6 planned sections were passed in all the categories. The winners and awardees in the classical trials were:

As soon as the static pace of Saturday trials ceded to the dynamic Sunday carousel race, the events started to develop incredibly fast. The organizers announced that the speed race would start one hour ahead of schedule. Nonetheless, the spectators and fans never regretted that. Meanwhile, the crews were readying for the start…
As the participants and experts commented, the speed race route was no less treacherous than the trial sections. In the first run only 8 cars out of 13 made it to the finish line. This time the evacuator vehicle did not need to be rescued and coped with the loads of work that befell it with flying colors. Gradually, the crews broke in the route, came to know it and presented to the spectators a more than enthralling show, with a lot of overtakes and acute struggle moments. The winners and awardees in this tense and uncompromising carousel race contest became: Category B1
1st place – Serguei Prozetski/Victor Sukov (UAZ-31519) – 70 points
2nd place – Artur Stepanov/Alexander Skorobogatov (UAZ-31512) – 53 points

2nd place – Serguei Vartanian/Vladimir Korobov (Jeep Cherokee) – 43 points
3rd place – Serguei Zhechko/Serguei Gritsanchuk (Nissan Terrano) – 30 points
However, this was not the end of the show. The organizers prepared yet another surprise for the fans from Gomel. The exotic sports lovers had to savor some exotic music to boot: the veritable trial of a concert featured Zvik (Gomel), VolMax (Gomel), Pomidor/OFF (Minsk) and DJ Sasha (Gomel, “Adrenalin” Club). And, crowning it all, the traditional shower of champagne and the awarding ceremony. There is still time before the next stage which will take place in Grodno on July 24-25.
