News / 27 October 2004Town of Zhodino hosted 4th stage of Republic of Belarus Second Open Jeep Trials Cup on 25-26 OctoberThe 4th stage of the Second Open Jeep Trials Cup of the Republic of Belarus National Olympic Committee took place on October 25-26 on a temporary track in Zhodino. In accordance with the contest Regulations, the first day of the cup stage was dedicated to classic trials. 18 crews took their start in section on the first day of the cup. The organizers had prepared very complicated sections that the vehicles in most cases could not pass unscathed. Thus, seven crews had to abandon the track after 3 sections passed. Two of the crews: Mikhail Gretchiha/Konstantine Volodko and Vladimir Tupenkin/Andrei Rudnitski managed to reanimate their jeeps and joined the race in a short while. Time proved to be insufficient for passing all the seven sections, and Category B1 contenders managed to pass 6 sections, Category B2 only 5 sections and the Hobby Category 6 sections. The competition could not proceed without some vehicles toppled over: Andrei Gusak/Valeri Yarmolinski in their Nissan Patrol found themselves hanging in the car landed on its roof, and Dmitry Atroshkin/Yevgeni Titov had a somersault in their UAZ-315125, however, luck had it so there were no trauma and both crews continued the contest struggle.
The first day closed with crew No 11, Friedmann Kuehenmeister/Grigory Kamenuk, leading in Category B1, whereas Vyacheslav Shilenkov and Sergei Gorely came first in Category B2. In Hobby Category, the classical trial was won by Sergei Prozetski/Victor Sukov (UAZ-31519). They became overall winners of the 4th stage in the Hobby Category. We would remind the reader that this category contenders compete in trial sections only. Crews in the categories B1 and B2, whose jeeps were prepared for much more grueling competition, had to face the start of the carrousel race on Sunday. The second day of the Cup coincided with the Motorist’s Day, the 26th October professional festivity, and commenced with the participants’ vehicles parade through main streets of the town of Zhodino. The first to take start in the carrousel race were Category B2 crews, followed by the participants in B1 Category. The race consisted of four 10-round laps. 12 crews crossed the start line, and only 10 survived it through the finish line. No 71 crew in a Dominas quit because of the failed axle which resulted in the cardan shaft falling out. The crew of Sergei Zhechko and Sergei Gritsanchuk in their Nissan Terrano also failed to reach the finish line. This race discipline was not altogether favorable for the leader of all previous reaces, No 33 crew of Andrei Birukov and Dmitry Kniga. Firstly, the crew Birukov/Kniga skid off the track while doing an overtake at a high speed, and got into a “mud trap”. And a short while later their Mitsubishi bearing number 33 fell on its side during an overtaking maneuver in the third lap. The crew consisting of Leonid Novitski and Oleg Tupenkin emerged victorious in the carrousel race as part of the 4th stage of the National Olympic Committee Cup.Following two days of the competition, the following crews became winners and awardees
