Russia – Belarus Business Council
Early 2008 heads of a number of Russian industrial, investment and energy companies interested in expanding economic ties with the Republic of Belarus and implementation of joint projects in its territory formed a group of initiators for establishment of the Russian Business Council on Cooperation with the Republic of Belarus with the support of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Russia.
On May 28, 2009 the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Russia housed the constituent conference of the Russian Business Council on Cooperation with the Republic of Belarus. The heads of more than 70 organizations and enterprises of the Russian Federation took part in the conference along with the representatives of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Russia and its regional branches, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Economic Development, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia and the Permanent Committee of the Union State. Boris Pastukhov, Senior Vice-President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Russia, was put in the chair of the Supervisory Board of the Russian Business Council on Cooperation with the Republic of Belarus; Andrey Biruykov, President of Yarovit Holding, was appointed the Chairman of the Business Council and the Chairman of the Executive Board.
One of the Business Council’s main field of concern is objective assessment of problems of bilateral cooperation, the current economy of Belarus, understanding of its current processes and existing problems as well as recommendations on how they shall be addressed by the business community of Russia interested in successful work on the Belarusian market.
The main objectives of establishment and operation of the Russian Business Council on Cooperation with the Republic of Belarus are:
• expanding and developing business contacts and mutually beneficial cooperation between Russian and Belarusian entrepreneurs;
• promoting Russian goods and services on the markets of the Republic of Belarus and attracting Belarusian investments to the Russian Federation, protecting the rights and legitimate interests of Russian entrepreneurs in their relations with the Russian and Belarusian official and business entities;
• enhancing the role of interested representatives of the business community of the Russian Federation in forming and implementing the public policy in the sphere of Russian-Belarusian economic ties;
• bringing together efforts and building a constructive dialogue of the business circles of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus interested in progressive development and improvement of effectiveness of Russian-Belarusian business cooperation.
The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation, VTB Bank, State Specialized Russian Export-Import Bank, ROSBANK Joint Stock Commercial Bank, YAROVIT MOTORS Closed Joint-Stock Company, Rosagroleasing Joint Stock Company and Atomstroyexport Closed Joint Stock Company act as co-founders of non-profit partnership “Business Council on Cooperation with the Republic of Belarus”. Its members are small and medium-sized enterprises and organizations of the Russian Federation. The Russian banks that are founding members of the Business Council have a wide network of their representative offices in Belarus, which have a long and successful run on the Belarusian market with enterprises and organizations of different forms of ownership. This fact will make it possible to create the real foundation for investment projects for those Russian companies that are planning to work effectively on the Belarusian market.
