UgolYAROVIT Gloros— a truck designed to operate in onerous conditionsIn April 2004 presentation of the first GLOROS family truck was organized, supported by Governor of Saint Petersburg V.I.Matviyenkoand thus the YAROVIT truck project was launched. On February 17-18 the inauguration ceremony was held in Saint Petersburg, on the occasion of commissioning the “YAROVIT Motors” auto works.
A BIT OF HISTORY
One can say that the project of manufacturing heavy-duty and high cross-country capacity trucks started with participation of the racing team organized by the company “YAROVIT” in truck trial tournaments in 1996-2001.
The hard and dedicated efforts of the designers to create new units and assemblies of an all-wheel-drive truck brought rewarding results. The achievements at motor sports, the original technical solutions (the transfer case, the steerable driving bridge, the centralized tire inflation system, etc.) were noticed by foreign investors. Year 2000 saw the starting of talks on YAROVIT’s participation in developing a concept and implementing the project of creating a new all-wheel-drive truck for Russia’s market. In 2003, with the aim of implementing the project of building a new truck in Russia, the Closed Joint Stock company “Investment Company YAROVIT Motors” (Moscow) was set up, whose founders are: the company Elgin System (USA) - 51% of the shares, and the company Tracks & Dumpers (Great Britain) - 49% of the shares. The functions of the company IC “YAROVIT Motors” comprise project management and organization of sales and commodity distribution networks. The Joint Stock Company “Production Co “YAROVIT Motors”” was set up by “IC “YAROVIT Motors” in 2003” in Saint Petersburg as organizer of the truck manufacturing facility.DEVELOPMENT OF THE PROJECT
The company “YAROVIT Motors” became Russia’s new producer of YAROVIT trademark trucks. The car-manufacturing facility is deployed in Saint Petersburg on the premises of Leningrad Metal Works. Currently, the last of the funds invested in the organization of the vehicle production are being used up. Part of the spending was for upgrading and repairing the production floor space purchased. The production process equipment has been bought. Five vehicle prototypes have been put out, presently successfully undergoing tests and certification.
Since May 2004one of the dump trucks (8x8 wheel formula) has been test-run at Norilsk. From the end of 2004 an ore dump-truck (8x6) has been successfully operated by the company “Phosphorite”. YAROVIT trucks exhibited at the largest motor shows in Russia and Turkmenistan have been highly acclaimed by specialists.
The company production program stipulates for gradually stepping up the trucks manufacture volumes. In 2005 it is planned to put out 250 trucks of various wheel formulae and superstructures, whereas by 2009 production volume will reach 1800 vehicles annually.
EMBODIMENT OF RELIABILITY AND QUALITY Manufacture of YAROVIT trucks is founded on employing the high intellectual potential of the national designers creating the vehicle concept and producing the design and production process documentation. The production organization envisages using the assemblies and aggregates corresponding to the world level, of domestic design and production as well as those made by the leading CIS and foreign producers. The principle of wide-reaching cooperation with other producers is used, i.e. cooperation at the level of complete aggregates and units, and cooperation at the level of parts for aggregates and units of the company’s own design. The optimal variants of the aggregates setup, the clever harmonization of their performance characteristics, the wise compromise between the vehicle quality and its consumer value, have imparted YAROVIT trucks with a number of competitive advantages: high effectiveness; quality and reliability, rational prices that are lower than those of foreign-made vehicles in the same class (Terberg, GINAF, SISU). Further development of the project envisages setting up, on the territory Russia, of aggregate assembly facilities (assembling axles, transmission parts, superstructures, etc.) in cooperation with such leaders of the world motor-car construction as SISU Axles, Axletech, HYVA, with the purpose of minimizing the vehicle production costs and saturating the CIS market with high quality aggregates and parts. As agreed with the foreign partners, the trademark YAROVIT is used as the project brand and name of the new vehicles (a pertinent licensing agreement has been signed for the use of the trade mark).FROM COMPLEX TO SIMPLE YAROVIT truck line is organized using the “from complex to simple” principle. The approach consists essentially in that the most sophisticated models - 6x6, 8x8 and 10x8 are used as basic ones, and further development of the truck line is carried out by simplifying the basic models. The company commodity nomenclature embraces vehicles of the wheel formulae 6x4, 6x6, 8x4, 8x6, 8x8, 10x6, 10x8 which provide for the required payload characteristics, cross-country capacity and possibility to mount a wide array of superstructures. Depending on the setup, the vehicles are grouped in three families: GLOROS (cab-over-engine), DOGMUS (conventional “hooded engine”), ORDEX (a cab-in-front-of-engine chassis used to mount special-purpose equipment or rigging). Various special-purpose vehicles are built on the basis of the chassis: the dump truck, the bolster truck, the logger, the concrete mixer, etc. The GLOROS family of trucks can be used in various industry branches as heavy cargo vehicles featuring a wide gamut of superstructures and fit to operate in moderate or adverse climatic conditions, on public roads, company dirt roads as well as off the road. The exclusive nature of GLOROS vehicles consists in that the objective of their creation was to satisfy the needs of the customer to the maximum through use of the latest achievements of the world’s car-building. That is why GLOROS trucks are built with Deutz, Cummins, Caterpillar engines, ZF Friedrichshafen and Allison transmission, SISU, Axletech axles, etc. And this is why GLOROS trucks are irreplaceable in the conditions of Siberia, Russia’s Far East and Extreme North.By O.
